Sep 11-15 Safety

  • Tue - Safety - Jointer and the planer - Shop Demo
    • The First time you write the test, your score is recorded. After that, you must achieve above 85% to pass and move into the shop, but your first test score remains as your mark! Please make sure you can pass on the first time!! If you miss a lecture, get the notes from a classmate.

Sep 18-22 Safety test & Inventor

  • Mon - Algonquin College Presentation
  • Tue - Safety Review
    • Inventor tune-up - quick tutorial refresher: parts, assemblies and drawing files
    • Parts, Assemblies, Drawings, Dimensions and posting your screen shots
  • Wed - Safety Test
  • Thu- Introduce our first design project: Charging Station
    • We will be making our charging stations out of pine.
    • Requirements of the Portfolio
    • Procedure list with enough details to build (ie machine, step, size, etc.)
    • Evidence of research (photos, thoughts, ideas...) Ideas for minor modifications (compartment size, etc.?)
    • Cut-list (Like your bill of materials but sizes are the rough, uncut measures)
    • Inventor design drawings posted to your portfolios
    • Only when this is complete for everyone, will we go into the shop to begin building!

Sep 25-29 Safety Tests and Design

  • Mon - Safety retest and Charging station design
    • Designs will be due on Thursday
    • Construction starts Friday
  • Tue - Project Design
    • Continue your research and Inventor drawings. Modify your portfolio to reflect the charging station
    • Remove all generic content
    • If you have questions (Inventor, designs, modifications, etc) Please ask!
  • Wed - Re-sawing tutorial workshop
    • Our friend at wood gears has thought about this: check this out
    • Re-sawing video and demo in the shop
    • Second re-saw Video

  • Thu - Design finish and complete the portfolios
    • designs drawings in Inventor and portfolio are due today
    • Please be sure to complete all sections of your portfolio
      • Drawings, procedure and cut-list (uploaded)
      • Research
    • Let's get into the shop to start building!
  • Fri - Construction begins
    • Some important Shop Notes
    • Finalize the Procedure list including lamination and Re-sawing of all your wood. You need a cut list to bring into the Shop Tuesday. We went over this on Friday. POST to the portfolio page.
      • Which parts need laminating? (Our wood is 4" wide)
      • Which parts need re-sawing?
      • Which parts need planing? (From 7/8" to 1/2")
      • Some parts need BOTH resawing and laminating.
      • Make a detailed organized list of How you are planning to do this. No one goes into the shop Tuesday without this "Instruction sheet"!!
